Each year the Grand Prix Festival honors what we call our featured marque. As you know 2011 is Datsun/Nissan and next year we will have the Mustang as our featured marque. That means that the eligible car for the 2012 Tour de Marque – Mustang will be, you guessed it, Mustangs. With brilliance like that you all ought to be able to keep up with the car ahead of you.
What you may not be aware of is that last year we started what we hope will become one more of our annual traditions at the Grand Prix Festival.
In 2010 the Featured Marque was Alfa Romeo. But because we had already planned to feature Datsun/Nissan for 2011 we came up with a small display area for a small gathering of Datsuns at the Great Escape Ice Cream Store.
I would like to do something similar for some Mustangs if the mustang folks can find me someone who would be willing to do the little bit of organizing it takes to make it happen. Last year the Datsun gathering at the Great Escape was organized by Fred Davidson, and he can tell you that it doesn’t take much real organizing. All you have to do is gather up about 12 friends with Mustangs who are NOT already in one of our Stone Bridge Driver events this year and tell them where to go and what time to be there.
Of course, these cars get a nice free display parking spot, but that is about it. No Old Course laps with the rest of you and none of the other perks that come with participating in the other events. On the other hand there is no entrance fee either. I can’t remember if there was a little free ice cream involved or not.
But as you can imagine just having a nice parking spot for the festival is worth quite a bit.

If this gathering of mustangs does take place this year, we might even come up with a name for it like Prixview Parking, or Prixview Ice Cream Social.
