Display Parking Update
Every Stone Bridge Driver, which is anyone who is entered in any of the Stone Bridge Driver events gets display parking in one form or another. Every year there are some who worry about being parked in for the duration of the festival and not being free to skedaddle when they want to. Skedaddle is such a grown up word. It’s the kind of thing we used to hear from our parent’s generation. I digress.
The opt out method for anyone who really doesn’t want to be in any sort of display parking is as follows. When you approach the intersection of 4’th and Franklin Streets on your final lap of the Old Course, just point straight ahead to Cheli, the traffic person at that intersection and then continue east on 4’th as it becomes 414 North and go fend for yourself in a town that has absolutely no extra parking on that particular day.
If you lose track of which is your final lap, you will either find yourself missing your last lap, or you will find yourself going south on Franklin Street expecting another lap but getting to park with the rest of your group whether you wanted to or not. Once you turn south onto Franklin Street at the conclusion of your last lap, you are committed to park, and you are past the point of no return.
Let me quickly give you the official definition of a lap so that you can count your 2 laps from there.
Your first lap starts the first time you cross the Start/Finish Line, regardless of where you enter the course. Your second lap starts the second time you cross the S/F line regardless of where you exit the course. And you only get 2 laps if I am counting correctly that day.
Each Stone Bridge Drivers event’s parking situation is a little different and is described below. Please read the one for your event before you decide to opt out of parking or not. In most cases, you will find that NOT opting out still gives you a lot more freedom than you expect.
Concours D’ Elegance and Concours d’LeMons are both display events so it would make absolutely no sense to opt out of parking in these 2 cases. You signed up to display your car.
Glenkhana:
You get display parking in the same lot you are doing your Glenkhana in. There is easy exit to 6’th Street if you feel the need to leave the festival early. No need for opt out procedures.
Glenora Run:
You folks get to park on North Franklin Street. The street reopens at 8:30, so guess what, you definitely have to move your cars by 8:30. In the past I have seen that although all those cars are parked there until 8:30, it seems there are always a few who somehow mange to sneak out when they need to. But if you are really worried, just opt out at the intersection before you turn north onto Franklin to park.
Tour De Marque, Datsun/Nissan:
You folks get to park in a beautiful park setting that is not directly on Franklin Street. Therefore there would be absolutely no need for any of you to opt out as you can leave at any time. Those who will be going on a Rally Route after parking, just park, then after everyone is parked, go on your adventure and when you get back you can park yourself back in the same location for as long as you want until the festival ends.
Founders Tour:
We found a new and improved place for you folks to park last year, and it worked out very well. Incidentally it has an exit onto 10’th Street so you can leave when you choose without disrupting the show on Franklin Street. Of course if you want to opt out, get it done at 4’th and Franklin before you turn south onto Franklin. Although I can’t imagine why you would want to opt out of this one.
Sporting Roadster Tour:
Your site is great, but it is quite a bit harder to sneak out of until the magic time of 7:30.
I say magic because there will be fireworks starting in the gorge just west of where your cars are parked for display. If that was my car, I would want to move it out of there at 7:30. At that point it will be easy to get away.
If you don’t see your particular event here, you might just have us confused with some garlic or strawberry festival down the road a piece.
